-
A camera crew catches a brutal shooting--and creates a dilemma
-

-
The TV crew from It Happened Like This, a program on the
- Telemundo Spanish-language network, was after a human-interest
- story. They got a horror show instead. In North Lauderdale,
- Florida, Emilio Nunez confronted his ex-wife Maritza at their
- daughter's gravesite, blaming her for the girl's suicide. As the
- camera rolled, Nunez pulled a pistol from his pocket and shot
- Maritza 12 times.

-
After Telemundo aired the tape, news organizations rushed
- for copies. Though most networks decided not to show the
- shooting, it ran on NBC Nightly News. NBC said it wanted to
- "illustrate the horror of domestic violence," but hundreds of
- callers to the network denounced it as shocking, offensive and
- without news value.
